Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 coming In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi revealed last month that it is working on the Mi Mix 2 -- an upgrade to the bezel-less concept smartphone -- Mix Mix that the company announced in October last year.

This information comes via Pan Jiutang, a China-based analyst. Jiutang says that Xiaomi is likely to make use of Goodix’s in-display fingerprint scanning technology.

According to Mr. Jiutang, the Xiaomi Mi MIX could be the first smartphone to utilize Goodix’s in-display fingerprint scanning technology.

Goodix had introduced the aforementioned in-display fingerprint scanning technology during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Now, interestingly enough, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is not the only smartphone rumored to sport such technology, the iPhone 8 could also ship with Goodix’s tech, at least according to the source.

With this, there would be no need of an additional fingerprint scanner on the phone, as the fingerprint can now be scanned by pressing your finger on the display.

The Mi Mix has a 6.4″ edgeless IPS LCD display with a 2048 x 1080 px resolution and a claimed 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is expected to be launched with a screen-to-body ratio higher than its predecessor, the Mi Mix. If rumors are to be believed, the Mi Mix 2 might be available in the similar price bracket as the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
